The art of a peaceful arrangement
Place every crown where it can remain without challenging another.
Choose your court
Begin with four rows and four columns. The size selector also offers five and six. Changing the size clears the previous arrangement; there is no saved board to return to after a reload.
Select an empty square to place a crown. Select an occupied square to lift it away. You cannot place more crowns than the board's chosen size.
Read the lines of influence
A crown sees along its row, down its column and across both diagonals. Any two crowns sharing one of those lines are in conflict. The board highlights those pieces so you can reconsider their positions.
A complete arrangement contains exactly four, five or six crowns, according to the selected court, with no shared lines. The completion message appears only when that condition is satisfied.
Accept a little guidance
The guided crown control searches for a complete arrangement that preserves your current choices. If one exists, it adds a crown from that arrangement. If your pieces cannot be extended into a solution, it explains that you need to remove or move a crown first.
Undo reverses the most recent placement or removal, including a guided move. Reset clears the current court and its undo history.
One example, when you need it
Reveal a four-crown arrangement
Reading rows from top to bottom, use columns 2, 4, 1 and 3. Each row and column receives one crown, and no diagonal connects a pair.
Move without a mouse
Tab reaches the board. Arrow keys move your focus between squares; Enter or Space places or removes the focused crown. Keep the browser tab open if you want to leave the arrangement in place during a break.
